RIPE ASN FAQ

This page should give all the needed information regarding AS-Number registration and its process.

IMPORTANT Notes for ASN and PI

-We require a copy of your Passport and/or Company Certificate, two Upstream Carrier with AS-Number and eMail you plan to use for the RIPE NCC.
-Documents such as Company Certificate or Certificate of good standing can’t be older than 3 months.
-Upstreams MUST be in the RIPE NCC Service region (eg. Europe) and CANNOT be a hourly cloud provider.
-Prefix MUST be registered to you in the RIPE DB. If you get a prefix from us or buy a ASN + /48 IPv6 PA this is automatically the case.
-IPv6 registration: We may require a justification for allocations bigger than > /48.
-IPv6 PI larger than /48 require a justification for the RIPE NCC with addressing plan, location/upstream invoices and any further documentation.
-ASNs issued are 4-Byte ASNs.
-ASN requests typically take 2-5 business days assuming all documents and details are in good order and the RIPE NCC has no issues with your request.

Notes regarding RIPE DB Objects:
-The org-name on your ORG Object must match your full legal name, eg Max Muster or Example LCC. The company name must include the form (eg. LLC) and must match any registration documents. If you are a sole trader it would be eg. Max Muster trading as Example.
-Addresses in the RIPE DB must match your registration papers.

Notes regarding out of region requests:
If you are based outside the RIPE region you will need to provide proof that you have a presence within the Region. This can eg. be via Invoices for a BGP VPS/Dedi/Colo.
The Invoice must be issued to you or your company and match your other account details and list the location of the service.

Request Flow
How does the process of an ASN request look like? – The below should give you clarification.

  1. You place an order via my.ifog.ch and make payment
  2. After passing initial fraud checks we will open a ticket to collect the necessary documents.
You will need to send us:
-Passport/ID/Business registration documents, depending if your request is for yourself or business
-If not already provided, your RIPE DB details (ORG, MNT, NIC-HDL)
-If you are based outside the region we will need proof of location within for the RIPE NCC (eg. Invoices, Contracts, etc)
-If you request a PI Prefix we will collect additional details such as usage, net planning, for the RIPE NCC at this stage
  3. If all documents provided are in good order we will draft and send you the LIR Agreement to sign via DocuSign. If there are issues with the documents we will ask you to make corrections or send additional documentation.
  4. After signing the LIR Agreement we process the request with the RIPE NCC. If you are an individual, you will need to verify Identity with a link provided to you by us from the RIPE NCC.
  5. The RIPE NCC will evaluate your request and may get back with additional questions or clarification requests.
  6. If the RIPE NCC has no objections the ASN will be issued by them.
